K. Guymon Obituary

Kathleen Louise Guymon passed away on May 10, 2019 at Country Health Care & Rehab, Gifford.  There will be no visitation or funeral. The family will have a private viewing, followed by cremation and burial at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. Louise (as she was known) was born on July 23, 1925 in Springfield, IL to Dorothy (Utterback) Robbins and George Robbins. Louise married Harry J. Guymon on April 10, 1949. They moved to Mahomet in 1970.  Harry died in May 2001 shortly after their 52nd wedding anniversary.

Louise worked a variety of jobs and volunteer jobs over the years.  She served the Decatur school system as a volunteer in the classroom, and as a PTA officer before serving as IL State PTA President. Louise had a passion for crafts and was skilled in many, including ceramics, various needle arts, quilting (hand piecing), miniatures and miniature rooms.  She taught beginning quilting at Parkland College and area quilt shops.  She was a traveling member of the Illinois Quilt Research Project which registered over 17,000 quilts across the state.

She was a great family supporter spending many hours watching her children and grandchildren participate in various sports, school programs and band concerts.  She was an avid bird watcher and had several dogs over the years.  She is survived by her children: Gary Guymon, Mark (Karen) Guymon, Kathy (Steve) Lawson, Susie Guymon; 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the Champaign County Humane Society.  The family would like to thank the staff at Country Health and Rehab for their kind and supportive care they provided to our mother/grandmother over the last 6 years.
