Evelyn Roberta Meyers, 92, of Port St. Lucie, Florida (formerly of St. Joseph, Illinois) was called home to be with her Lord and Savior early morning on Monday, May 20, 2019. Evelyn was born in Urbana, Illinois, on July 5, 1926, one of four children of Wilbur Merrick and Mary (Grice) Merrick. She was formerly married to Robert Blankenship. In July, 1965, she married Paul William Meyers of St. Joseph, Illinois, and lived in St. Joseph, Illinois, for many years. In 1992, they retired to Palmetto, Florida.
Evelyn graduated from Urbana High School, Urbana, Illinois. She was retired from the University of Illinois Housing Department. Evelyn was an avid Illini fan and supporter. She enjoyed listening to classical music, singing, knitting, golfing and watching sports on television. She traveled extensively with her husband. She loved her family and was loved deeply in return.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Paul William Meyers, her parents, two sisters, Wilma Nelson and Ruth Sloman, and one brother, Raymond Merrick. Evelyn will be remembered by her three daughters, Mary Kae Blankenship Douglas of Springfield, Illinois, Cheryl Ann Blankenship Kopmann, of St. Joseph, Illinois, and Carol Lee Blankenship Whittaker, of Palmetto, Florida, and one stepson, Dennis Meyers, of Port St. Lucie, Florida. She is survived by her six grandchildren and was a great-grandmother to 15 children and a great-great grandmother to three children.
Family visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, Urbana, Illinois, with graveside services to follow at 2:30 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Urbana, Illinois.
