Ronald Prescott Obituary

Ronald Walter Prescott (Mr. P), 90 of Champaign, Illinois passed away peacefully at home on April 18, 2024 surrounded by family. Mr. Prescott was born on May 27, 1933 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada the son of Walter Edwin Prescott and Ethel Carter Prescott. Mr. Prescott attended the Unitarian-Universalist Church. In his later years, he became a free thinker.  He was an avid stamp collector, classical music lover, and wine connoisseur. 

Mr. Prescott attended grade school in Toronto, Canada and high school in both San Antonio and Houston, Texas. After graduation, he attended the University of Houston where he was granted a BS degree in geology. After his bachelor's degree he served in the US Army with an artillery unit attached to the 8th Division, US Forces in Europe. He was an ambulance driver and a medic. Following his military service, Mr. Prescott earned a teaching certificate from the University of Houston. At a later date, he earned a Masters of Education from the University of Illinois. 

Mr. Prescott started his love of teaching working for the Houston Independent School District. He continued his teaching career as an Earth Science teacher at Urbana Middle School. He also taught high school students at Education II (an experimental storefront school in the 1970s). It is through his 30+ years teaching that he became known as “Mr. P”. He was the type of teacher who promoted creativity and challenged students to think critically about the world around them. He was accepting and loving of everyone and will be dearly missed. 

Mr. Prescott is survived by his son Ed Prescott, daughters Kim Prescott, Valerie Prescott (Todd), granddaughters Aliya Prescott (Jake), Emma Robbins, and Julia Robbins. 

Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
